KRISTI WALKER

Kristi has been the Executive Director of the Chebucto Boys & Girls Club for over 3 years.  (We’re not really sure exactly what that means,…but she looks busy a lot and is often seen sitting in the corner, staring at a computer screen, pulling her hair out J!). Kristi is originally from a small town in Ontario called Parry Sound, but she feels right at home in Spryfield.  She loves being outside, hanging with kids and making others smile.  She needs to drink more water, less coffee and remember to put on sunscreen.  She loves her Chevy, her dog, and her job.

Kristi has a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and a Bachelor of Education.  She has a varied background of skills and experience resulting from an interesting array of previous jobs and endeavors that include: being a substitute teacher, a canoe instructor, a waitress, a tutor, a chambermaid, a fish cleaner, a cashier,…and more (she has a story for every occasion, …look out!:).

Kristi is a certified Canoe Instructor and Teacher.  She is also certified in First Aid, Scuba Diving and Sailing.  She has received training in Risk Management, Behaviour Guidance, Quality Programming, Outcome Measurement,  Building Youth Self-Esteem, Emergency Procedures, Outdoor Survival and Leadership.

Mary Hagell

Mary Hagell, aka "Amy, I mean Mary", started off as a volunteer at the club two summers ago.  She sat on our Board of Directors for awhile, but really missed being in programs.  She is now our Program Coordinator.

Out side of the club, Mary has an extremely adventurous side and enjoys hiking, camping and occasionally surviving cold winters nights in the woods.

Mary's passion is the ocean. This brings her a love of fish,…and scuba diving, for which she has her advanced certification. Mary has also done extensive training in youth leadership and development and is also certified in Standard First Aid and CPR.

Amy Mifsud

A.k.a,…  “Mary, I mean Amy,” is our Assistant Program Coordinator.  She is originally from Windsor, Ontario where she decided to take part in a program called Katimavik, for youth ages 17-21.  In this program, Amy traveled across Canada and did volunteer work in a variety of fields (including child care).  After the 7 month program ended, Amy had traveling in her blood and decided to move to Halifax.  Amy has a passion for traveling, being outdoors, and like Mary…occasionally surviving cold winter nights in the woods.  Amy has participated in youth leadership and development training, and is certified in Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR.

Michelle Murphy

Michelle has been involved with the Chebucto Boys & Girls Club for almost 4 years.  She started as a parent volunteer. (“I had to make sure the Club was a safe place for my kids!”)  She was here so much that Kristi decided to hire her.  Michelle is certified through Red Cross for Standard First Aid.  She has participated in training in behaviour guidance and ADHD, as well as Take It E.A.S.Y. (Empowerment and Self-Esteem for Youth) and High Five.  She has also participated and led many in-house training workshops.  Michelle is now in the middle of an aesthetics program at a local college (doing extremely well!), and still coordinating our parent group.  In her limited spare time she enjoys crafts, sewing, tole painting and reading.

Courtney MacNeil

Courtney has been working at our club for about 2 ½ years.  She lives in Herring Cove, graduated from J.L.Ilsley High School, and is in her second year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at St. Mary’s University.  Courtney recerts her Red Cross Standard First Aid every year, and has participated in the High Five training program, as well as several in-house workshops including behaviour guidance, risk management, leadership, group dynamics, etc…In her spare time Courtney likes to paint, draw and do crafty things.

Patrick Wells

Patrick is a new After School Program leader this year.  We scooped him up from the Wave Pool Day Camp at the end of last summer.  Pat is currently in grade eleven at J.L.Ilsley High School.  He lives in the Cowie Hill area and is an avid hockey player (Chebucto midget A), and fan.  He willingly shares his enthusiasm for sport with the kids, both in the after school program and at Sports Night.  Pat is certified with Red Cross in Standard First Aid and has participated in the High Five program, as well as other in-house training opportunities.

Matt Hollet

Matt is a new After School Program leader this year as well.  He also attends J.L. Tanya Reid

Tanya is our first Junior Leader, turned STAFF!  She had volunteered for almost 4 years as a junior leader!

“I knew that I wanted to work with children when I became a junior leader.  I can’t think of any other job I would rather do than work with the kids at the Chebucto Boys & Girls Club.  I’m going to work there for a long time!”

We are very excited about Tanya joining us as staff.  She has taken great leadership in attempting to bring some order to our fooseball table, and has been eager to participate in any training opportunity thrown her way, including:  NSOLD Outdoor Survival, Red Cross Standard First Aid and a workshop about supporting and developing youth leadership.
